Message of solidarity from Scotland Rock around the Blockade to the picket of the US Embassy in support of the Miami Five

We are honoured to be asked to send this message of solidarity to today's picket.

Yesterday [the 19 of April] was the forty-first anniversary of the Cuban victory at the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961, an invasion involving 1,500 Cuban born mercenaries, trained and backed by the CIA as part of the United States continued war on Cuba. It was in the prevention of such terrorist acts the Five brave heroes of the Revolution were imprisoned. In a tactic reminiscent of our own British government when faced with anti imperialist fighters, the United States have attempted to criminalise the Miami Five and in turn the Cuban Revolution.

The imprisonment of the Miami Five is part of imperialism's continued against socialist Cuba. History teaches us that wherever the imperialists attempt to criminalise a political struggle, their attempts will be met with resistance. Today's demonstration is just a small but significant part of the growing global rebellion against the might of the empire. The policy of criminalisation of the five Cuban heroes will fail and your attendance here today demonstrates that reality.

The recent speaking tour of Communist youth, organised by Rock around the Blockade, has demonstrated what we can achieve hundreds of young people attended meetings and dayschools across Britain in support of the Cuban Revolution and to hear the message of socialism over barbarism. It is only by being active in our own respective countries that we show true solidarity with the Cuban people and their socialist revolution. We must continue our solidarity work in defence of socialism.

Today we boldly proclaim that the United States are heading inevitably towards a colossal defeat of an even greater magnitude than that inflicted at the Bay of Pigs!
